You know you are sleep deprived when you start to use your oyster card to open the front door, or your front door keys to get through the ticket barrier!! And if I can do this on the odd disrupted night after attending a birth or helping a postnatal client overnight, I can only imagine what it feels like to be in that space on a daily basis as a new mum or dad.

Everything has a season

I have decided to write this blog because I am increasingly aware of just how out of touch many women are with their moon or menstrual cycles. Perhaps they have never had the honour of being in touch. On a broader scale we are generally out of touch with the seasons and cycles of nature, so it is not surprising that we have temporarily lost the art of tuning into our own seasons and rhythms.

The birth of the ‘fertility doula’

I have been agonising for months (if not a couple of years!) over how to describe what I do. Painful breakfast networking introductions going something like this…”Hi! I’m Lon. I’m a yoga teacher, massage therapist (specialising in abdominal massage and women’s health) and a birth and postnatal doula…” It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue and I would be impressed if you remembered as far as massage therapist. It also doesn’t even remotely describe who I am or what I’m passionate about!
